The 2016 Louisiana Creole Research Association Annual Conference will take place in New Orleans, October 20-24. Conference fee includes Thursday and Saturday events. Students with ID may attend free! Brunch and Whitney Plantation tour are by paid reservation only.
The conference theme is “Enduring Legacy: The Role of Louisiana’s People of Color in the Pursuit of Equality in America.” The Saturday conference will be a special collaboration of organizations and institutions from New Orleans and beyond, gathering to tell the stories of Louisiana’s People of Color and honor their place in American history. Come hear our stellar lineup of distinguished speakers discuss the historical events and conditions — from slavery to the civil rights movement — surrounding our forebears who set the pathway to equality and justice in America.
The weekend begins on Thursday, October 20 with a private preview of an upcoming Henriette Delille museum exhibit. Friday, October 21 is LA Creole’s annual meeting and reception for members only, Saturday, October 22 is the conference program at Xavier University. Sunday, October 23 is the ever popular Jazz Brunch and Awards ceremony, with music by the Pinstripe Jazz Trio at the Best Western Plus Landmark Hotel, and Monday, October 24 is a special tour of the Whitney Plantation near Wallace, LA that includes transportation and lunch.
